Free gift tiers
A free gift tier rewards customers with a product instead of a discount. When their box reaches the tier’s item count, the gift is added to their cart on the house.
Set up a gift
In the bundle’s discount settings, set a tier’s reward type to “Free gift”, then choose the gift with the product picker:
- One gift product per tier. Each free gift tier carries a single product.
- Pick the variants you allow. You can offer one variant or several. If you allow more than one, the customer chooses which they receive.
- A bundle can have more than one free gift tier, so bigger boxes can unlock bigger gifts.
You can start from the “Buy 3, get a free gift” template and adjust it.
What customers see
When a customer’s box reaches the tier, the storefront shows an unlocked free gift alongside their selection, and the gift appears in the price summary marked “FREE”. If the gift has several allowed variants, the customer picks one before the box can be added to the cart.
How the gift applies
- The gift is added to the cart automatically with the bundle, one per unlocked gift tier.
- At checkout, BigBox discounts the gift line to free through Shopify Functions. The app verifies that the gift matches the tier you configured, so gift lines cannot be forged or edited into a discount.
- Gift items do not count toward tier progress or item limits. A “Buy 5” tier still needs 5 paid items, even if a gift from a lower tier is already in the box.
If the gift runs out
BigBox checks the gift’s stock. If every allowed variant is out of stock or unavailable, the customer sees that the gift is currently unavailable and cannot add the bundle until you fix the gift or they change their selection. Keep an eye on gift inventory during promotions, or use a variant that allows overselling.
Tip
Pair a free gift with a discount at the same item count. Two tiers can share a count as long as the reward types differ, so “Buy 3, get 10 percent” and “Buy 3, get a free gift” can unlock together.
